Blackbeard’s Raid on Middletown
This piece is a unique representation of Blackbeard’s raid on Middletown, relying solely on the oldest-known text for reference. Blackbeard and his crew gathered and delivered their plunder of livestock to their ship, Queen Anne’s Revenge, which is not depicted in the artwork. The ship is not mentioned in the Middletown myth text by name or description, so there is no evidence to include it other than logic. The ultimate decision to exclude the ship, despite its significance, allows for a more focused and immersive beach scene. This enhances the storytelling aspect of the artwork with the intent of drawing viewers into the narrative. Multiple painting styles and techniques were incorporated to create diversity and contrast, as well as a distinct variation of colors. Styles that mimic oil paint, watercolor, chalk pastels, and pencil can be found throughout the piece, which are unified with a pencil style outline to create an illustrative feel. Featured in The Enduring Myth of Blackbeard's Raid on Middletown, by John R. Barrows.

Homage to Ballerina in a Death’s Head (1939) by Salvador Dali
I was inclined to create my own interpretation of the great surreal artist, Salvador Dali’s, Ballerina in a Death’s Head (1939) in memoriam of his life and his art. I love all of the works of Salvador Dali and the surreal elements he incorporates throughout his art, my favorite being The Burning Giraffe (1937).

Morning Glory
Morning Glory represents a few different ideas through its symbolic imagery. Morning Glory flowers illustrate life, death, and rebirth, blooming each morning only to die every evening. They are very resilient, enduring harsh conditions, yet also fleeting, only showing their beauty for a short time. One may compare the Morning Glory flower to love, and gift it as a symbol of an unbreakable bond between two people. In the Victorian Era, this flower was given as a gesture of love, however it was more so considered for love in vain. I designed this piece with the concepts of perpetuity and rebirth in mind.
